Training for Kilimanjaro 2007

Training for Kilimanjaro

With so much going on in our lives today, it is not always easy to fit in a training session, we will try and follow our schedule, but I have no dout in my mind that some sessions will be missed.

I do not think you have to be super fit for this kind of trek, obviously the fitter you are the better you will feel, but being fit does not mean you will not get altitude sickness, so if a few sessions are missed, don't worry you will still have a good chance of making it to the top.

We all have been training to some extent over the last couple of months, by this I mean down at the gym a couple of nights a week, ie 1 hour CV per session.
From the month of June onwards, is when we will start to step up our training.

Training for June
1.Gym two or three times a week, must include at least 1 hour CV training
2.Weekends either a long hike or a jog

Training for July
1. Gym two or three nights a week, must include 1.5 hours of CV training
2.Weekends either a long hike or a jog

Training for August
For the first three weeks the training will be as follows, Gym two or three nights a week, must include one session of at least 2 hours of CV training. The first two weekends either a long jog or a hike, with a two day overnight camping trek on the third weekend

I believe this is more than enough training for this trip, the distances travelled are not going to be great and the pace will be extremely slow due to acclimatization.
