There are several types of Sleeping sheet / liners, and as many different materials used,
they're basically a thin cotton sleeping bag liner , some have a pillow slot at the top to take a pillow and others do not.
Sleeping liners perform well in hot or cold climates, in the warmer climes they can be used instead of a sleeping bag, making them perfect for backpacking in hot countries, they also protect you from beds that are not as clean as one would wish. (bed bugs etc)
In cold climes they can be used with a sleeping bag helping your bag stay clean and stop the need to wash it, also adding approximatley 1-2 degrees onto the warmth rating of a sleeping bag.
The two best fabrics for a liner are silk or cotton, silk is not every bodies choice but is cool when it's hot, warm when it's cold, it is much lighter and packs down to a ridiculously small size, on the other hand cotton is much cheaper and some of our liners have an insect repellent and antibacterial agent built in.
For your own comfort and hygiene we'd always advise when you travel to take a liner.
